Because these are money and health topics, we hold our content to a deliberately high standard. This page sets out exactly how we work, so you can judge our content — and hold us accountable.

Independence & Transparency

• Editorial Independence: Insurers cannot buy positive reviews, artificially inflated ratings, or preferred placement. Our recommendations are determined by rigorous side-by-side analysis of policy documents, annual caps, exclusions, waiting periods, and veterinary fee guidelines.
• Affiliate Disclosure: To support our ongoing research, data verification, and platform development, PetAssured.ca may participate in affiliate marketing programs with Canadian insurance providers and retail partners. When readers click through and purchase a policy or product, we may receive a referral commission at no additional cost to you.
• Uncompromising Separation: Commercial relationships never dictate our editorial verdicts. If a policy has restrictive waiting periods, restrictive bilateral exclusions, or low annual caps, we highlight those limits plainly.
• Clear Disclosure: Every page that contains an affiliate link carries a visible disclosure, and sponsored outbound links are properly designated.

If a recommendation would be different without the commission, we wouldn't publish it. The commission supports our research operations — it does not dictate our findings.

Accuracy and sourcing (YMYL discipline)

Pet insurance and veterinary costs are "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) topics, where inaccurate information can cause real financial or health harm. We apply specific discipline:

• No fabricated figures. We do not invent prices, premiums, vet bills, payout caps, or statistics. Where exact figures vary (and they almost always do — by province, postal code, breed, age, and insurer), we describe ranges and relative magnitude rather than publishing a false precision.
• Verifiable provider details. Coverage structures, reimbursement models, deductible types, and waiting periods are described against each provider's own published policy documents. When a provider's terms or availability are uncertain or changing, we say so and direct you to verify at the source rather than guessing.
• Canadian context only. Every provider, price reference, regulation, and recommendation is Canadian, in Canadian dollars. We clearly flag U.S.-only products (like Lemonade, Spot, and Figo) that are not available to Canadian residents.
• Not professional advice. Our content is educational and editorial. It is not insurance, financial, legal, or veterinary advice. For decisions specific to your situation, we direct you to a licensed professional or the insurer directly.

Medical and health content

When we describe breed health risks or veterinary conditions, we aim to reflect mainstream veterinary understanding, framed for general education rather than diagnosis. We:

• Describe conditions, typical risk patterns, and cost categories — not specific medical advice for your individual pet.
• Repeatedly direct readers to consult a veterinarian for diagnosis, treatment, and decisions about their own animal.
• Avoid alarmism and avoid downplaying — the goal is an honest, proportionate picture of risk and cost.

Products we link, and products we don't

Some pages carry links to everyday pet gear. The rule we hold ourselves to is that we do not link anything that claims to treat, prevent, or cure a condition.

What we link is equipment: a ramp, a support harness, a non-slip runner, an orthopedic bed, a kitchen scale, a grooming brush. These make living with a diagnosis easier. None of them is a treatment, and we don't present them as one.

What we don't link is supplements, remedies, or any ingestible marketed for a health outcome. Their efficacy claims are not ours to make — we are independent researchers, not veterinarians — and unlike a bed or a ramp, an ingestible is something an owner might substitute for veterinary care. That is a risk we won't take for a commission.

If your pet has a diagnosis, the equipment on our pages is worth discussing with your vet before you change how your pet is supported, exercised, or fed.

Review and dating

• Every money and traffic page carries a last reviewed date so you know how current it is.
• We revisit content on a regular cadence and update it when provider terms, availability, or our understanding changes.

Corrections policy

We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do, we fix them openly:

• Spotted an error? Email us with the page URL and what should change. We log every correction request.
• We respond to correction requests within 5 business days and update the page promptly when a correction is warranted.
• Material corrections are reflected in the page's last reviewed date.

PetAssured.ca is produced by an independent editorial team focused exclusively on the Canadian pet insurance and pet-cost market. We are not a licensed insurance broker, agent, financial advisor, or veterinary practice, and we do not sell policies. Our role is to research the market, read the policy documents, and lay out the trade-offs in plain language — and to be clear about the limits of our role.
